Just 2 days ago, T20 Global League team Durban Qalandars launched its official logo that depicts the Sufi culture and the country’s hues. The Durban Qalandars team – owned by the people behind Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Lahore Qalandars –today, revealed their coaching team that includes big names like South African cricket coach, Paddy Upton and former New Zealand all-rounder, Grant Elliott and former Pakistan bowler and coach, Aqib Javed.

Upton has been appointed the head coach while Elliott has been assigned to take the role of the assistant coach. Javed will be the Director for cricket operations as well as the bowling coach. It was also announced recently that the Qalandars would have the first pick in the upcoming players draft on the weekend where teams will pick one international marquee player prior to the players’ draft among the likes of Chris Gayle, Jason Roy, Brendon McCullum, Eoin Morgan, Kevin Pietersen, Dwyane Bravo, Kieron Pollard, and Lasith Malinga.

The players’ draft to select the squad for the inaugural T20 Global League will be held on August 26 and 27 in Cape Town. Each franchise has already been allocated a marquee Proteas signing, with top batsman Hashim Amla being the one for Durban. The tournament is set to begin in November, with less than three months for it to be staged. Teams participating in the League will be based out of eight cities across South Africa.

There are 16 marquee players that have thus far being unveiled by CSA – eight current South Africa internationals and eight of the best foreign players in the world game. The marquee players had been named in April. On the function on Saturday night, the eight marquee international players will also be allocated a franchise. That will leave space for 16 other players, and they will all be determined at Sunday’s draft.
